Yes, that is a good one. There are others that work well too.
I use FFS almost exclusively.

Actually, it is an excellent program for Linux! I use it no less than once a week to update my data backup drives. I also use it to populate replacement data drives when cloning would tie up the computer too long because the drives are too large to clone quickly and cloning would tie up the computer for hours, if not days (like when I needed to populate three 8TB SSDs for the new computer I recently ordered). It also can be used for one off large file transfers, useful since FreeFileSync can be set to verify each operation.

As with any other program with many features, there is a learning curve when first starting out, but once that is achieved and the necessary profiles have been set up, using the program is quick and easy since, once started, it will run in the background while you can still use the computer.

To ensure the safety of your data, you have to be proactive, not reactive, so, back it up!

Hi,

It is an excellent program, and probably the fastest backup utility. I use it for my home files. It is a differential backup: at the 1st time all the files are copied, then only what has changed.

I use the flatpak version:

Code: Select all

flatpak install org.freefilesync.FreeFileSync
It allows copying files keeping their permissions (see the second setting on the top of the window).

Have a look at grsync in the repositories.
It is a graphical front end for rsync.
