From the other similar forum posts, this looks troubling, but that's mostly a guess.

Code: Select all

Network:
  Device-1: Intel driver: N/A port: N/A bus-ID: 00:14.3 chip-ID: 8086:51f1
  Device-2: Intel vendor: Dell driver: e1000e v: kernel port: N/A bus-ID: 00:1f.6

IF: enp0s31f6 state: up speed: 1000 Mbps duplex: full mac: <filter>

I've installed and/or uninstalled many drivers from other posts, but none have gotten my system to see any wireless networks.

SafeBoot is disabled.

Any guidance is much appreciated!

Thanks, but no dice. Could I have broken something as I was trying all the various other fixes I'd seen? I'm happy to start all over and update the kernel first thing.

But, I also followed guidance else where to do:

Code: Select all

rfkill list

0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
1: dell-bluetooth: Bluetooth
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: no
2: phy0: Wireless LAN
	Soft blocked: no
	Hard blocked: yes
which leads to checking BIOS, and it seems right. not in airplane mode so far as I can tell.

thanks

Try a BIOS reset to defaults if the airplane mode FN keyboard combo doesn't clear the hard block in rfkill list

There is a driver loaded in the 5.19 kernel so that is an improvement over 5.15

Looks like that BIOS has a setting to disable wifi when ethernet connection is detected

Wireless Radio Control
Control WLAN radio Sense the connection of the computer to a wired network and subsequently
disable the selected wireless radios (WLAN).

The wifi might work with ethernet unplugged, or it may have to be booted up with ethernet unplugged

It might also be Fn & PrtScr to remove the hard block.

Huh. Looks like the BIOS reset did it. Many thanks!

Weird that it worked, since at first I had to change some of those to get it to boot -- most notably turning off Secure Boot. But hey, if it works I'll take it!

BTW, I tried to Fn-Prtsc option, but first the keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot got there first. When I disabled that shortcut, it
Locked
