[LMDE 6] [Beta 1] Bluetooth keyboard does not automatically connect [Apple Magic A1843 Keyboard]

Post by Linux-Is-Best »

I will happily supply any and all information, anyone suspects is useful. I do not normally use Bluetooth, so I do not know what would be helpful or not (so let me know).

But I have to manually connect my Bluetooth keyboard after every reboot. Worse, I have to 1st sign in to connect, which means using a spare wired keyboard first, entering my password at the greeter, connecting, and finally I can use my keyboard. Ideally, I would like the keyboard to connect at the greeter, so I can sign in to my account without needing a 2nd keyboard.

The "auto connect" option I see when right-clicking on the device listed, reads "Audio and input profiles." I have had that checked and unchecked with the same outcome. Here is the info from the device listed if that is of any use:

In comparison, Manjaro Linux, automatically connects without issue. I am using an "Apple Magic A1843" keyboard.

Normally, both GDM and SDDM have the option to manually click and connect to Bluetooth, should automatically connect fail. This is a useful feature found in both (SDDM and GDM). In LMDE 6, while the button is there (if you install GDM or SDDM), it does not work.

Nevertheless, this seems to track as to why my Bluetooth keyboard was not automatically connecting at the greeter, preventing me from logging in.

Simply put, it cannot connect, because it seems the whole function is currently broken. Because even when installing GDM or SDDM, which supports the option, Mint will not allow connection until you're signed in.

(By default, LMDE uses LightDM)

I was having connection problems with my bluetooth mouse after installing the beta. I searched the web for a solution, but none of the fixes worked. The mouse worked fine on LM 21.2 so I decided to try something that was not suggested. If your keyboard worked with 21.2, maybe this will help.
What I did was renamed the 3 files in /etc/bluetooth and copied the same files from an install of 21.2.
If you don't have that version may any of the 21 series will work. This had to be done as root. It worked like a charm. I didn't check witch file was the fix and just left all 3
replacements. Hope this will be of some help.
Good luck and happy hunting.

PS The debian file main.conf was much larger so I suspect that's the one. You can test if you want.
