Changing Pointer Size in dconf-editor aAnd gsettings Fix Has No Effect In Cinnamon x64 - [Solved]

Post by LinuxMint20 »

I am running

Code: Select all

Kernel: 5.15.0-83-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 11.4.0 Desktop: Cinnamon 5.6.8
    tk: GTK 3.24.33 wm: muffin dm: LightDM Distro: Linux Mint 21.1 Vera base: Ubuntu 22.04 jammy
and attempting to increase my mouse pointer using the dconf-editor or using the

Code: Select all

 gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.interface cursor-size ##
without changing the pointer theme has no effect whatsoever.

Any assistance is appreciated

That's odd. It worked for me

gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.interface cursor-size 40 changed my mouse cursor size from the 32 I originally had it set to...to 40 and it was noticeably bigger in size

Unsure if this matters but here are my desktop theme settings under the Themes app

Mouse Pointer = Bibata-Original-Classic
Applications = Mint-Y-Dark-Teal
Icons = Adwaita
Desktop = Mint-Y-Dark-Teal

Are you sure you're typing the command correctly? If yes...what error message are you receiving when trying that command in terminal?

It reset the cursor size, as expected. I should have paid more attention. Is there a setting for mouse pointer?

That exact command shouldn't have changed your underscore/cursor size....it should have changed your mouse pointer icon size.as it did mine.

gsettings set org.cinnamon.desktop.interface cursor-size doesn't change the cursor-size as it would lead you to believe from what I just tested.

Yes..I agree in case you're thinking " Then why label that setting as ** cursor size ** and instead more sensibly label it *** mouse pointer size ***? "

*shrugs*

Indeed. Well said.

I just tested it at sizes 24, 48, 64, 96, 128...up to 1024. It never gets larger than 48, even in

Code: Select all

dconf-editor
, and the cursor size is large enough to be seen from outer space at that setting.

The os we all left for Mint is kicking our tails on this one. It scales up to i'd say at least 128, or damn near it, with the slider like the one we have in Themes for Cinnamon desktop.

How do we offer this up as a feature request that Clem or the devs are gonna see? im not about to leave my Crystalcursors theme, nor should I, for something with a 128 point size pointer that only comes in black and white.

Who is or are " we"?

I can clearly see a size difference from. 48 to 60, but I haven't tested anything bigger than 60 yet.

But empathizing with the idea of bigger stuff.

I do wish I could zoom in more/Increase...visually the size of folders/icons inside nemo at least 100 percent more than max currently.allowed gui settings. ( special icons for movies ansld series folders here )

Sorry, "we," being those of us here on Mint. In other words, those of us who left MS for Linux. But anyway, can "we" make feature requests that would make it to the dev team of LM? I've tried emailing Clem before regarding this exact issue, but how how many emails a day does he realistically get??
