Brave Browser will not launch when installed normally
If I follow the 5-step procedure for Debian-based distros, I can usually install Brave Browser. Basically, you install curl, add the Brave repository, update the repos, then install. While Brave did install by this method on LMDE 6, it wouldn't open because of a GPU error. So I reluctantly installed Brave as a flatpak. I'm going to doublecheck the following, but when you install Brave a certain way, it provides for bookmark importation that requires an HTML file, rather than the name of a source browser. Firefox stopped storing bookmarks as an html file long ago, so It's very frustrating to encounter this anachronism. It usually means I have to install bookmarks manually. Tedious and time-consuming. Why does Brave Browser asks for an html file, when the bookmarks are strored as a json file? One more problem, since I don't log in to LMDE 6, I get a prompt for a keyring pass when I launch Brave Briwser, What's an easy way to get rid of the keyring pass, without logging in? And how do I get the password off the screensaver? I want screensaver, but I don't want the password protection.
I am happy to report that both LMDE 6 Faye and LM 21.1 Vera booted my Acer Aspire One 722 netbook, saw the networks, and connected to internet. Debian Bookworm 12 did not boot the Acer netbook. (Sparky 7 and Solus 4.4 also booted and connected successfully.) Now, can someone explain to me why when I was prompted to furnish a network key in order to connect, it wouldn't accept that key, but instead required the router's pw?

Re: Brave Browser will not launch when installed normally
Regarding your Firefox bookmarks, if in Firefox you click on Bookmarks, Manage Bookmarks, Import and Backup, there is an option to Export Bookmarks to HTML. The file that is created should import into any browser.
Re: Brave Browser will not launch when installed normally
Thanks for the tip, rjmockler. Needed that! Actually, Debian 12 did boot the Acer netbook, but couldn't see available networks due to a firmware deficiency, probably lacked wpa_supplicant, something proprietary (non-free) no doubt.

Please share output of the following terminal command
Code: Select all
inxi -Fxxrzc0
Brave also import/export bookmarks as html
To my knowledge unfortunately you can't, its a security feature by chromium especially if you put a login credential on brave's password manager

When it asks you to put in a password for the keyring, you simply leave it blank and hit enter, it will come up one more time and again, just leave it blank, that will be the end of having to use a keyring password for the browser and should never ask you again, thats provided that you have not entered one to begin with when it has come up in the past.To my knowledge unfortunately you can't, its a security feature by chromium

Re: Brave Browser will not launch when installed normally
I had the same keyring password problem with Chromium In Fedora. To avoid the prompt, I modified the launch command with "--password-store=basic", as in
/usr/bin/chromium-browser --password-store=basic %U
Re: Brave Browser will not launch when installed normally
In installed brave on both mint and lmde6, on both an amd laptop and a nvidia desktop. No problems.
These are the instructions I followed (the top grey box): https://brave.com/linux/
I guess you might have some odd hardware, and others who may know more than I do have already asked for info on that.

Re: Brave Browser will not launch when installed normally
The above-mentioned modification when applied to the Desktop icon (launcher) worked, ie disabled the keyring pw prompt, even if Brave is sourced from flatpak. Just insert "--password-store=basic" in front of "%U". Open the launcher as text, and modifiy the exec line. I don't see an easy way to modify the Brave launcher in the menu tree, and the launcher pinned to panel.
Maybe if I install the nVidia GPU driver, G72 [GeForce 7300 LE], I could install Brave normally.
That's odd, I installed this driver in LMDE 5, but not there for LMDE 6 Beta. I request that this driver be available for LMDE 6.
