Bookmarks menu

Post by triplemaya »

The Places menu has changed in Mint MATE. We now have a special little bookmarks sub menu. This is DEEPLY counter productive, especially as the standard bookmark for Documents etc are inside it.

So the old layout you could simply do: Keyboard. Main menu, right arrow, down down ... to Documents etc. Plus you immediately see all the bookmarks at a glance. Instead we have: Main menu, right arrow, down down down, right arrow, down down ... . (Though Desktop is exempt - because that is the one place that is so hard to get to?!)

It is literally counter productive as the net result is that the easiest sequence on the keyboard was a much shorter option which makes it all redundant. Main menu, right arrow, down to menu, key first letter of targer - you know, just like the applications menu.

And it is even more 'effort' with the mouse, a real RSI inducing bit of fun.

Would whoever did this PLEASE undo it. Even better, MAKE IT A OPTION. That way, you see, if we like the new way we can keep it. And if we hate the new way we can change it back. I can never understand why this is not a basic requirement with tools that huge numbers of people are using, and have automated in their brains.

In case not yet clear from the caps this is a pet peeve. I wish those who did not take care of their customers would just leave the field of interface design and go off and expend their energies in the vital kinds of innovations as trying out swapping the brake and accelerator pedals in vehicles! It is bound to suit someone. :P

Right click on Menu button on panel>Preferences>Places and be sure last option GTK bookmarks is enabled. Notice you can also add other places there.
