Chrome stable 119.0.6045.105 freezes [solved]

Post by stevengarland »

Dell XPS 9700 Mint 21.2

Recently Chrome freezes consistently after very little use. I have tried shutting off extensions, cleaning the cache, and even uninstalling /reinstalling. Nothing helps except turning off acceleration. Firefox is working fine
Any suggestions on the Chrome issue?

That looks like a partial report. I guess there was an issue copying from Terminal. Can you use System Reports for the full report? Click Copy here:

I see the following solution elsewhere. Can anyone explain what it means? What to do>

We found a CSS block which is causing the all thing. We don't know why the following block was breaking our pages only on this chrome version.

&:where(*),
&:where(*::before),
&:where(*::after) {
font-weight: 400;
line-height: 1;

margin: 0;
padding: 0;
border: 0;

user-select: none;
box-sizing: border-box;
}

I spoke too soon. Problem persists. Switched to Firefox ER browser

I see that the Chrome freeze issue goes back to 2012.

Maybe nobody will see this

I didn't give up and now seem to have found a strange solution (to me). Someone years back mentioned disableing rasterization as a solution. I went to chrome://flags, looked up rasterization and disabled it. Now more freezes for a few days.
