Bad Magic Number

Hello everyone.

I have a:
Toshiba 2.5" HDD Model: MQ04UBD200 - 2.00 TB.
Firmware Version: JT000U.

I tried to safely remove the external hard drive, however it was plugged out before the process was finished properly.
As a result I was not able to access my external hard drive again.

Could you please help me?

Does Mint still see the drive but not access it? Is it encrypted?

What is the drive formatted to? If it's a Windows format like NTFS you should use Windows to try and fix it. NTFS has undocumented features so Linux file system tools are not reliable with it. I've had similar things happen a couple of times but I haven't had Windows installed for years. So I used Hiren's Boot Disk to fix them. There's no substitute for chkdsk in Linux.

BTW I really have no clue what "Bad Magic Number" is supposed to mean here. I thought you may have been talking about some kind of exotic algorithm for encryption. But apparently not.

bad magic number in super-block is a relatively common thing on hard drives.

1. Mint sees the drive but cannot access it. Neither any info about available capacity is given. Cannot access properties.
2. No encryption.
3. NTFS.

I have to mention that the disk was unplugged during safe ejection procedure (was not completed).
