[SOLVED]Vista boot exists on 7????

Hey guys, I installed mint awhile ago but I noticed that there is a vista partition on my hardrive and I installed 7 some time ago so is it okay if I delete this partition to free up some space on the drive???
Also when I look at the partitions on my drive, A mint partition dosent show up. Instead I have two partitions 7 and vista. Everything is here its just not a separate partition. Is there a solution to make mint its own partition without reinstalling and losing all my settings?

to get a better idea of your situation, could you please download and run the boot info script and post the generated RESULTS.txt?

When you installed Mint did you do a separate install or did you use Mint4Win and install Mint inside Vista?(It would have to be Vista, Mint4Win doesn't play nice with Win 7).

Also, Which OS are you in when you check the partitions and don't see Mint? If you are in Windows, this is normal. Windows does not acknowledge the existence of any non-Windows OS.

No no this is a full install. And looking through mint what I see is that there is a sub partition inside the windows 7 partition so that all makes sense.
What I want to know now is whether or not if I delete the vista partition since I dont use it at all would that affect win 7 or something

Before you delete anything it would be a good idea to see what you have.

Please run these commands in terminal[Menu-->Terminal] and copy/paste the output here

When you open your terminal, usually you get an interactive bash shell, which is a command interpreter. There's more than one way to skin a cat, but if you are in your terminal, and in the same directory as the downloaded script, do this

Then copy and paste the output that is saved in the RESULTS.TXT file. Or you can make the file executable by changing it with chmod then just typing ./boot_info_script*.sh

No no this is a full install. And looking through mint what I see is that there is a sub partition inside the windows 7 partition so that all makes sense.

mint4win installs should be full installs as well. if your mint partition is within the ntfs partition, you have a mint4win install and could try lvpm to transfer files and settings, unless someone knows a mint specific way to do this.

you do have 2 ntfs partitions on your drive. sda1 is your 7 install. i don't know where you got the information from that vista is installed on your machine, but i'm guessing that you were confused by the 2nd grub2 menu entry. it merely states that it found a "Windows Vista (loader) (on /dev/sda3)" and this doesn't mean you actually do have vista installed on your machine. looking at some other info in the results:

i deduct that this is actually your 7 recovery partition, it's up to you if you want to delete it. most people hardly ever use it, especially since it's very destructive (it will wipe your disk and reset to factory defaults).

If you are looking at your partitions from within Windows you will not see the Mint partition
because Windows cannot natively read or access a Linux file system, so it will see the disk space
as unused or unformatted.
