Good morning everyone,
I apologize in advance if I am not appropriate, but it is the first time I have participated in a Forum.
I installed, from its issue Linux Mint LMDE 6 Faye 32 bit on Netbook Dell Latitude 2100 Atom, and the system recognized all peripherals
perfectly.
The last update proposed on 12/12, consisting of 51 files, concerned both programs (Chromium, etc.) and system files.
The installation deactivated the communication peripherals, both WIFI and the Ethernet LAN port.
I believe that the cause concerns the update given that a restoration carried out with an instant Timeshift brought the Netbooks back to
complete efficiency, (the procedure was carried out twice, with same result)
I wonder if anyone knows which file should not be updated, to avoid deactivating the devices
I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and a Peaceful New Year
Thank you for your attention, best regards
Ambrogio Beretta

Re: LMDE Update 12/12
Hello, aber.
Let me make an educated guess:
The list of software updates included the kernel update to version 6.1.0-15. In case this true, then there is bad news: kernel 6.1.0-15 seems to hold a bad regression causing serious network malfunctions.
The workaround for the moment is: Boot to the previous kernel 6.1.0-13 and stick with it, till kernel 6.1.0-16 becomes available for installation. It should fix the regression.

Re: LMDE Update 12/12
Good morning Mr Karl, as well as being very quick, your instructions were useful and effective. The upgrade included 51 program files, Debian and a Linux Kernel 6.1.66-1. The upgrade was started excluding the kernel. The upgrade has been completed and the WIFI and LAN devices are fully functional
Thank you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Re: LMDE Update 12/12
Hello, aber.
Kernel 6.1.66-1 is what will be displayed as K6.1.0-15 as well. Debian version strings to me are even more confusing than Ubuntu kernel version strings. (Just my point of view)
Anyway.
Kernel 6.1.67-1 (Kernel 6.1.0-16) might be "just around the corner" or already in the stable Debian repositories, as user t42 reports over > there <.

Re: LMDE Update 12/12
In fact Debian kernel naming is quite logical. Compare output of
more at Version numbers and ABIs
Code: Select all
$ uname -r
6.1.0-16-amd64
$ uname -rv
6.1.0-16-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.67-1 (2023-12-12)
6.1.
equals to updstream base version, following with zero added for compatibility with programs which expect version consisting of three components.16
is an ABI number bumped each time when changes in the version require rebuilding out-of-tree modules6.1.67
is an upstream kernel versionmore at Version numbers and ABIs

Good news, December 15, 2023:
Means for LMDE 6: Kernel 6.1.0-16 should be available for installation by now.Debian’s 6.1.0-16 kernel wrote: Debian’s 6.1.0-16 kernel with the fixes to both the ext4 corruption problem from 6.1.0-14 AND the cfg80211 modules problems is rolling out into the debian mirrors.
