Erratic display issue after opening lid

Post by happyamos »

I had a similar issue to this on my old laptop, an old HP, with a slightly older version of Mint XFCE. Basically, when I close the lid, the screen shuts off. When I open it, I'm immediately presented with the lock screen. I input my credentials, and then the screen blanks. Initially I thought that maybe it had something to do with the power settings, so I have it set to ONLY turn off the screen when I close the lid, whether on battery or power. It didn't take me long, however, to figure out that if I quickly close the lid and open it back up, after I login, that the screen comes back to life. However, when I do this, the graphics start getting glitchy. For instance, the colors in the taskbar will flicker between a lighter color and the darker color it should be, horizontal lines appearing and disappearing on the screen, etc. A reboot is the only thing I've figured out to fix it right now, just means I can't close my lid.

You're running a 6.2 kernel on Haswell architecture. Unless you installed it to fix some other specific issue, which I very much doubt, you don't want a kernel that new. 10 year old hardware bugs very rarely get fixed in new kernels. Try reverting to a 5.15 series kernel.

It was to try to fix this issue, but yes, I can do that.

Please see if something in this Xfce forum topic Screen lock stuck on suspend gives you any ideas to help your investigation.
