Can't create a new directory even when logged in as root. Permission denied

Post by chrisgo46 »

Hello all

I am running windows 11 64 bit and have VMWare workstation 17 installed as my VM.

I have created a Linux mint 21.2 64 bit VM in VMware and updated VMware tools.

The problem i am having is when i try to create a folder at /mnt/hgfs/shared as root user, i get a permission denied error.

I searched to forum for references to this error but all i get back is how to become root, which is not my problem, as i stated i am trying to create this folder as root already.

This is a copy of the error i get: (root@chris-virtual-machine:~# mkdir /mnt/hgfs/shared
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/mnt/hgfs/shared’: Permission denied)

A system report gives:

Only thing I can think of is that
a) the "hgfs" directory is set "immutable" via the chattr command.
b) the "hgfs" directory is already used as a mount point.
