Wayland login doesn't work

Post by gpeden »

When I login using wayland i get a blank black screen with only a blinking cursor, then eventually my machine reboots. I used Upgrade Manager to install Linux Mint 21.3, rebooted, etc. etc.

is there something else I needed to do or check?

Welcome to the forum, gpeden.

Automatic rebooting is often the sign of a hardware issue.

Does this mean you took a Timeshift snapshot and then upgraded in place from LM21.2 to LM21.3?

The data you posted is showing no graphics driver loaded. That would be why you were getting a blank screen, but that would not explain the automatic rebooting.

Please provide the output of

Code: Select all

dpkg -l | grep -i nvidia
and enclose the results in code tags.

Is secure boot enabled? You can check by running the following in a terminal

Code: Select all

mokutil --sb-state

I deleted the 'Cinnamon on Wayland (Experimental)' file in the '/usr/share/wayland-sessions' folder to ensure I don't attempt to try the Wayland DE :D
