Mate
Out of the blue, every time i open a program i get an error message "mintMenu has quit unexpectedly" it then gives me an option to delete dont reload or reload. if i reload the menu comes back. the same happens when a program is closed.
I have uninstalled mintmenu reinstalled it, reset it,to no avail.
At the moment i have added one of the other other menu options to the panel and there are no issues.(the other 2 are both working fine)
Any help would be appreciated.

edit: i ran mintmenu from terminal and then also ran from terminal journalctl -xe
this was the output, which means nothing much to me

Code: Select all

~$ journalctl -xe

To prove to yourself that this is self inflicted do the following:
In Users and Groups create a temporary new user.
Log out and log back in as the new user.
If Mint Menu works normally there then you will know.
Keep the thread and report your findings.

New users get a fresh set of config files---so something in the hidden directories
of your ~/home is different compared to the same file/directory for the new user.
Open those folders and press ctrl+h to see the hidden directories and files.
Those will be prefixed with a decimal point.
Particularly .config/mate, .config/menus, and /.config/mintmenu
Something is different.

Thank you
I tried copying the various files across, 1 at a time and logout and in.
This did not make any difference.

The menu is just an applet.
Try replacing it by right-clicking on the menu icon and
unlock it, then right-click again and choose to Remove from panel.
Then right-click an empty spot on the panel and choose Add to Panel.
Scroll down to find mintmenu (Advanced Menu) highlight that and click the Add button at bottom.
You will have to move it back into position by right-click--move.
Other icons must be unlocked while dragging the Menu icon past them.
