[SOLVED!] How to install KVM/QEMU in LMDE6

Post by SilverFox21 »

I want to install KVM/QEMU virtualization on my LMDE6 distro. However, I am not sure how to do it. All I am finding is how to install it on a Ubuntu-based system.

Hi,
I have installed qemu/kvm as follows:
sudo apt install qemu-kvm qemu-system libvirt-daemon-system libvirt-clients bridge-utils virt-manager -y
- Add user permissions:
sudo adduser $USER kvm
sudo adduser $USER libvirt
- Reboot

On the sudo apt install, I got these error messages:
E: Unable to locate package qemu-kvm-system
E: Unable to locate package libvert-clients
Am I missing a repository?

Sorry,
qemu-kvm is not in the repository, it,s enough with qemu-system, but you need to install libvirt-clients.
sudo apt install qemu-system libvirt-daemon-system libvirt-clients bridge-utils virt-manager -y
and SMV enable in your motherboard.

Sadly the lack of virtiofs in Bookworm means that communicating between Guest and Host seems impossible unless you use a USB device and switching between guest and host.
Really annoying because Qemu/KVM is just so much faster than Virtualbox.

Thanks to all. I was finally able to get everything installed. Sorry that it took so long to reply. My computer system was taken apart and moved into my new home office. It took a while for me to get everything set up again.
