Mint LMDE 6, Intel AX210 wpa3 problem.

Post by ramiz »

Hello everyone. Mint lmde 6 is installed (up to date) on my Lenovo thinkpad laptop system. However, although my intel ax210 wifi card and router support wpa3, it does not appear in the list and I can connect with wpa2. I saw a similar title for mint 21.3 in the forum. viewtopic.php?t=413433

I upgraded the kernel to 6.5x but the problem persists.

Code: Select all

05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210/AX211/AX411 160MHz [8086:2725] (rev 1a) Subsystem: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX210 160MHz [8086:0024] Kernel driver in use: iwlwifi Kernel modules: iwlwifi
And in the diaries

Code: Select all

[ 11.486666] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwl-debug-yoyo.bin (-2)
[ 11.486671] firmware_class: See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for information about missing firmware
[ 11.486696] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwl-debug-yoyo.bin (-2)
[ 12.034728] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: WRT: Invalid buffer destination
[ 16.866232] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: WRT: Invalid buffer destination
I get an error.

Note: I installed win11 for trial purposes. My Wifi Card is intel ax210, it works with wpa3 without any problems, it works without any problems in bluetooth and I also did not receive any error messages. So the card is OK.

Thanks for your help. have a nice day.

Hello, Ramiz, and welcome

We have two -yeah two- GUIs for the same thing ("Network Manager").

When you click on the tray icon network applet, there are two options on the bottom:
- "Network Settings" which opens the actual "Network" system setting also accessible via Control Center
- "Network Connections" which opens another graphical applet. There, select your wifi connection, click on the cogwheel (tooltip says "Edit the selected connection") on the bottom, go to "Wi-fi Security" tab where -at least on my LMDE system- wpa3-personal is indeed selectable whereas in "Network Settings" this very same option is absent.

Otherwise, perhaps, you can edit "manually" the configuration file for your wifi connection if you wanna taste how we did it 20 years ago on Linux or how they still do it, poor fellows, on BSD...

Debian 12 and LMDE 6 do not support WPA3 during installation, but you can enable it after installation directly on your router and it will work.
Debian 12 Bookworm 64-bit Cinnamon (main system) in dual-boot with Windows 11 64-bit (for maximum hardware and software compatibility)

First of all, thank you for the answers and help. Respected @MiZoG ; Yes it worked, thank you. @phil995511 yes, I learned this too. Only the error messages persist.

Code: Select all

[ 8.471913] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwl-debug-yoyo.bin (-2)
[ 8.471918] firmware_class: See https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware for information about missing firmware
[ 8.471940] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwl-debug-yoyo.bin (-2)
[ 14.499966] iwlwifi 0000:05:00.0: Unhandled alg: 0x707
I do not know the reason.

Problem solved. Thanks again, have a nice day.
