HTTraQt (website copier) version 1.4.11

Post by MikeNovember »

HI,

HTTraQt is a website copier. Unlike HTTrack, it doesn't require a browser to work, it is a full application.

Version 1.4.9-5 is available in the repositories.

However, its author has published a new version, HTTraQt version 1.4.11 on 2023-01-06. Its sources, as a tarball, are available here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/httraqt/files/

What are the changes? Updated Ukrainian translation, and Qt6 use.

Since Qt6 is available on Linux Mint 21.x, I decided to compile it (just for the fun, I don't speak Ukrainian, and the change from Qt5 to Qt6 is not a revolution...).

I followed the compiling procedure, installed the required dependencies, and of course it failed: configure had found a missing dependency; I installed the missing dependency, new trial, new error, and after a few trials I finally had installed all required dependencies, and I could compile HTTraQt 1.4.11.

The compiling procedure included making a deb, what I did instead of a "make install". Once the deb made, I could install it with gdebi.

I have tested the program: it works, it is able to capture full websites, and update formerly captured ones.

Here are some screen captures:

Capture du 2024-02-18 10-22-11.png
Capture du 2024-02-18 10-22-37.png

Dependencies: the final deb requires: libc6 (>= 2.34), libhttrack2 (>= 3.49.2), libqt6core6 (>= 6.2.0), libqt6dbus6 (>= 6.1.2), libqt6gui6 (>= 6.1.2), libqt6widgets6 (>= 6.1.2), libstdc++6 (>= 5.2).

I could distribute the deb, but how could you trust me? Am I a reliable source for programs distribution?
(However, the deb, "httraqt-1.4.11-amd64.deb", with a size of 852 kB, is available on request, send me a private message; like always, there is no warranty implied).

Regards,

MN

No. But you can create one of the following:
  • Launchpad PPA
  • Flatpak
  • Snap

Hi,

Launchpad PPAs are called "untrusted PPAs", the distribution of the deb from a PPA or from a download link would not change anything.

Flatpak: unfortunately, today versions of the main runtimes have changed the way video is used, and have made my Nvidia GPU no longer compatible with flatpaks (this applies to all Nvidia GPUs with 390.157 driver). Creating a GitHub account, writing an yml, then use flathub bot to build the flatpak from source would increase trust, but would be a large and complex job without any interest for me (unable to test or use it).

Snap: I don't use and I don't know anything on snap development. Moreover, a snap publication from me as publisher would not increase trust.

Regards,

MN

PS: HTTraQt 1.4.11 deb is available on Debian 12 and Ubuntu 23.10; but these versions require higher libc6 versions than the one of Linux Mint 21.x, based on Ubuntu 22.04, using libc6 2.35

PPAs do reduce risk - the debs are created on the build server, so we can be more confident that the deb you provide is indeed compiled from uploaded sources.
I wouldn't do anything at the moment though - a new version will be available in the next release of Mint.
