debian 6.5 kernel and mesa question

Post by cangcimen416 »

guys i'm a bit confused. in synaptic my installed kernel is 6.5.3~bpo12+1 but when i do uname -r it's said my kernel was plain 6.5.0. my question is which one is correct?
another question is the mesa version. i've got updates for mesa 23.3.4 since months ago but when i look up through corectrl it's still said mesa 22.3.6, why it won't updated to 23.3.4?

I'm a bit confused how you installed that kernel?

Kernel: It is all about debian naming conventions
Both occurrences refer to same kernel.

Mesa: You are somehow mistaken. Original, current and only mesa version for Bookworm is 22.3.6. Are you perhaps confusing LMDE with another main Mint / Ubuntu-based system of yours?

@Michael_Hathaway: 6.5 kernel is available in bookworm backports. It is installable with: sudo apt install -t bookworm-backports linux-image-amd64

He lists his kernel at 6.5.3 and the current backports kernel is 6.5.10-1. This is the reason why I was asking how he installed his kernel.

I have some Windows games installed with "bottles" and I use MangoHUD overlay which shows my games are using mesa 23.3.4 even though glxinfo shows mesa 22.3.6.

Now that you mention it...
executing flatpak list in my LMDE system...

Code: Select all

Mesa org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default 23.3.5 22.08 system
Mesa (Extra) org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default 23.3.5 22.08-extra system
Mesa org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default 23.3.4 23.08 system
Mesa (Extra) org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.default 23.3.4 23.08-extra system
Oops...
Two different versions of Mesa installed as flatpak runtimes.

As I found out (see my previous post) ... on the occasion of your hereby thread I must confess...
flatpak utilizes its own mesa runtimes the version of which can differ from system's.
I hadn't realized that because I'm an nvidia user and nvidia drivers are handled differently by flatpak.
