Steam won't open from Lutris

Post by Awesomebunny37 »

Cannot open Steam from in Lutris. When I click on Steam in Lutris, it says "Failed to load games. Check that your profile is set to public during the sync." So I then try to open Steam from the Linux main menu, it just sits on the screen "loading user data" and doesn't get any further. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Proton, Lutris and Wine. Restarted my computer. Still no luck.

My setup is: Linux mint 21.3 Cinnamon 64bit
AMD Ryzen 5 7600X Processor
ASRock X670E Steel Legend DDR5 Motherboard
PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 XT Hellhound OC 20GB
Cooler Master MasterLiquid PL360 Flux Liquid CPU Cooler
Samsung 980 PRO M.2 PCI-E Gen4 NVMe SSD 500GB
Corsair RM850x Gold Modular 850W Power Supply V2
Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2x16GB) 5600MHz CL36 DDR5

It's not supposed to. Lutris is used to run installers which don't immediately support Linux. Since Steam does and even offers Proton as a compatibility layer, being included in Lutris is unnecessary.

No driver is loaded for your AMD card:
Device-1: AMD vendor: Tul driver: N/A
Desktop is limited to software-rendering
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe
You have a brand-new AMD GPU. You need a recent kernel for your system to detect it properly.
Open Update Manager: View --> Linux Kernels --> Install latest kernel in 6.5.x (it is 6.5.0-18 at the time of this writing).
Reboot.

RabidPedagog is right about Steam. Install the Linux client of Steam and use the built-in Proton compatibility layer to test playing your Windows games on Linux.
