Welcome to Mint forums, ravega1693.
We cannot offer any meaningful insight without knowing your setup.
Open "System Reports" from the menu, select the System Information tab, press the actual Copy button and paste the output here - ideally edit your original post.
+ Tell us how you installed Steam into your Mint system (distro package, flatpak, official deb installer from steam site?)

Hi,
ravega1693 wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2023 3:09 am Hi there. I have linux mint, cinnamon x64. When i start dota 2 i have frozen dota's main menu.
I have the same issue with my linux system and I don't know why it isn't working. My guess that the ldme faye 6 distribution isn't made for games, even though you can install steam from in-build appstore.

Apparently you are not the only ones: https://www.protondb.com/app/570

One user states that there have been problems for a while now and that Valve is aware but there's no fix yet.

On other OS i could play dota 2 without any problems.
On Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS Mate Working.

Code: Select all

System:

Steam and Dota2 have frequent updates.
Maybe something has been updated.

1. Try create logs.
- Steam log from terminal
- Dota 2 log
and compare with log where worked using some diff grogram ( for example Kdiff , Meld )

2. I noticed that I have a newer driver. ( But it's not the newest, new it is 550.54.14)
I use Steam from apt, not from flatpak.
I seen something that from Steam from snap worked ( but topic from 2023 )
somewhere was in github->ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/ ...

I do not recommend testing if you are a new user,
- But you can check from a new user account.
- You can check with Steam from repository apt if exist.
- A more advanced user can check more, of course at the risk of damaging the system.
Timeshift tool may be useful if you want to restore your system to a previous state.

3. Try check support / ask
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Dota-2/issues?q=Debian

Good luck!

You can also run the game itself without the Steam application.

Close Steam app.
Find folder steamapps/common/dota 2 beta/game/
For example with locate command ( locate use database that must be updated )

Code: Select all

locate dota.sh
and run game in terminal

Code: Select all

./dota.sh
- the main menu should work
- hero testing should work ( with some bugs, I have a whole team of heroes there xD )
- playing with bots doesn't work, probably need Steam app running.

You can also use for example strace command to debug game.
For example you can
- check place where game not working
- You can make a list of files that this game runs on two systems and compare with diff app.
