Mac Poor sound (heavily compressed, thin and tinny)

Post by nebuar »

I have just installed Mint (21.3 xfce) on an imac (early 2009 24")

When running on Mac OSX the sound was rich and powerful, easily filling a small room and sounding great for movies or music. Now it is on Mint the sound is compressed, has poor dynamic range and, well, just sounds awful - everything sounds like a really badly compressed pirate video file...

I have searched the forums and found no real explanation of this, nor any any suggestions for fixing it. I'm guessing it is something to do with audio codecs and / or compatibility with the sound card? Any suggestions?
