Change desktop background not working

Post by rdh61 »

Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce

Right click desktop -> Desktop settings -> Check "Change the background".

I want it to change every 2 days. I select "in hours" and put in "48". Nope. Doesn't work.

OK, so I'll settle for every day. I select "every day". Nope. Doesn't work.

However, it does work with "in hours" "1" or "2" for example, as well as "at start up". But I do not want these.

Am I missing something?

Thanks.

I haven't actually used this feature but from a (very) quick internet search I can't find anyone else saying it doesn't work. One possibility is that it just works more simply than you are imagining and simply recommences from zero at each startup. So low numbers like 1 or 2 hours would work but 48 hours wouldn't (unless you keep your computer on permanently).

Similarly for "every day", might it be possible that it changes at midnight but nothing happens if your computer is switched off overnight? Admittedly that's not great, but most people would probably be OK with the option for it to change at each start up.

I should stress that the above is a pure guess and may be completely wrong. :D If you are sure it is not working correctly you could consider filing a bug report:
