Essential Linux sites everyone should bookmark

Post by MurphCID »

There is the big one for me: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.com/p/1.html In my opinion, if you do not have this one bookmarked you are doing yourself a huge dis-service!

More specific a list of commands: https://www.fosslinux.com/45587/linux-c ... -sheet.htm

Pretty good: https://linuxhint.com/

This one shows what the commands and their output actually look like: https://linuxhint.com/100_essential_linux_commands/

I got most of my useful support info for Mint from these:

https://ubuntuforums.org/

https://askubuntu.com/

https://wiki.archlinux.org/

ubuntuforums and askubuntu are great sites for any Ubuntu based distro, you can't argue with that huge user base (ubuntuforums has over 2 million registered users). There's a lot of real expertise there. Note they don't support Mint, I'm talking about searching here.

The Arch wikis are great, very reliable and a really high expertise level, which is typical of rolling release distros. There are more differences than with ubuntu, eg the packaging system is different. You can't necessarily expect to be able to simply copy/paste unless it's something like a kernel parameter but the quality is fantastic.

https://tldp.org was my go-to, before there was an Ubuntu, and I had Damn Small Linux running. The site has everything you would want to know or learn about,e.g. HOWTO's and so on. At least you could have an organized approach to learning Linux. Even as a techie,I still printed out the solutions to the stuff that had me stumped.

Linux Links

Do not let the 2017 bother you, most links are still intact, and most (not all) information is still relevant.

I forgot this one,
https://pkgs.org/
Say you want an older version of a program (for one example Pix, the newest version SUCKS haha), this is the place to find it.

Edit, surprised this thread is not a tad longer...or is the half dozen (or so) sites listed all that are required...NO, they are not. Anyway...

I don't actually have any of them bookmarked either though I use them, I'll just get there with the search engine. Most of my Linux bookmarks are much more specific.

Totally correct. Although I bookmark them so I make sure I can find them again, since sometimes I stumble over them by complete accident.

Well, if you use them, that seems like a good idea.
