Reflecta 10M with Vuescan

Post by efrolich »

Hello all,

I use Mint with several scanners. For 35mm i use the reflecta 10M. When I bought it in December 23 I had a struggle to get it recognized in Vuescan. In the end I got it working. I needed to disconnect my standard Brother printer and scanner. It worked flawless.

Now I bought myself a new HP Pavilion laptop. I did what I did before, disconnect the Brother pint/scan unit. This time no luck. The Reflecta is recognized, i can see it in lsusb. In Vuescan there are 2 entry's of the HP camera. I don´t know how to kill those, I don't know if those are a problem?

Ed Hamrick of Vuescan made me aware of a problem he discovered in the log file of the program.
The error is:
4 usbi: usb_claim_interface failed vid 05e3 pid 0144 nco 1 ifn 0 : could not claim interface 0: Device or resource busy

So either the device protection is the problem or some other program (SANE?) is grabbing it and not letting VueScan talk to it.
I deleted simple scan. Sane was not installed in Mint. No progress.

below the logfile of Vuescan. Genesis is the name of the 10M scanner. I hope someone can help me solve this problem.

Reflecta 10 M - very nice. Every time I look at my elderly Minolta Scan Dual III I think "if only.....".

So, this scanner has been around for nearly 10 years and at the time it was released it used a USB2.0 port. USB3.0 was there but they decided against it.

The sort of thing that comes to mind here is:-
1. Does the HP have a USB2.0 port? - You've probably tried that anyway.
2. Does the BIOS have any options relating to USB ports?
3. Presumably you've tried a different cable - that's Ed's #1 reply anyway
4. Have you tried connecting the scanner and powering it up before booting the HP?
5. Sounds daft but try some older versions of Vuescan - My Minolta is only happy with an old version.
