Can't disable touchpad when typing

Post by gododdin »

Hi all, my Linux Mint setup on the laptop I found in a skip is working pretty well now. The only thing that's driving me completely crazy is that I'm unable to stop the cursor from skipping around causing mischief as I type. I've done lots of searches and tried several solutions. I have even installed the 'Touchpad Indicator' app and clicked on 'disable touchpad when typing' but nothing has worked. It still dancing around like a mad thing! I'd be glad of your help. Here is my system information:

This works for me, but you must do it on each boot. Find your touchpad id #:

Code: Select all

xinput list
Then, replace X with your id #:

Code: Select all

xinput --disable X

Thanks for that, it does work but it disables it altogether. I use the touchpad a lot so I don't really want to disable it except when I'm typing.

Not sure what you already tried, but perhaps something here will work:
https://ostechnix.com/how-to-automatica ... in-ubuntu/

Method 2 there worked for me, you don't need the $ sign in those commands.

Thanks for the link. Unbelievably I have tried all 4 methods but none of them work. All of them report 'disable while typing' as 'true' but nevertheless it still keeps jumping around as I type. I'm at a complete loss!
