Disks Utility settings greyed out

Post by SteffenD »

Hi there,

I already googled around and found that greyed out options for external drives are quite common.
But I find it strange that I also get greyed out options like this for my internal system drive:

Any ideas what could be the cause? Is this something to worry about or just plain normal?
I can access the S.M.A.R.T. info via smartctl in a terminal without problems.

greyed out options like this for my internal system drive:
- If the lower options are grayed out, that's good.
Because it would be stupid to turn off the drive while it is in use.
I will write in general terms because I do not use this application.
Some options for various disk applications can write data for read and write verification purposes.
Don't use the test option without thinking / reading documentation, you don't want to delete the system.

For SMART I use GSmartControl app,
there after click hard drive is tab " Error log " where I can check errors if SMART is enabled.
Not all older SSDs supported SMART.
Anyway, there should be something written there.

If you have any doubts, read the documentation and ask the developers.

You cannot change a mounted partition and in the case of your screenshot, you cannot unmount /.
