KVM/QEMU No sound from VM, errors when setting soundcard

Hello,

I've setup a VM with Virt-Manager GUI ( Debian 12 x86 64-bit, GNOME )
/i aleways run virt-manager from terminal as sudo/

There is no sound coming from inside the VM.

Sound setup that ive tried:
HDA (ICH6)
HDA(ICH9)
AC97
None works.

So ive tried using the terminal to set the sound device
I Run:

Any ideas?
The wierd thing is it works in UTM on MacOS in my MacBook as Debian 12 (aarch64 version) VM. The sound just works no problems.

Extra: Ive installed pulse audio and pulseaudio volume control inside the VM (on Debian12 x86 on my pc) and when i play something it does show that something is playing, also tried amixer master 50% inside the VM but it changed nothing.

I don't know if this will help or not. I have LMDE installed on a VM with everything working. Here is the xml for the VM's sound:

Cant Edit the XML even when enabled in preferences.

If i change it, it goes beck to default on "Apply"

Tried:

sudo virsh edit debian12

To edit the XML but is does nothing, and it reverts it back when i open virt-manager.

So ive tried editing it again with the

Then lunch it from terminal by:

sudo qemu-system-x86_64 -device AC97 -cpu host -enable-kvm -m 2048 -smp 4  -drive file=/var/lib/libvirt/images/debian12.qcow2,format=qcow2

But it outputs the same errors in the terminal and the VM still has no sound.

It also reverts it back to the original even when i edit it with the terminal command ( no matter if i lunch it with virt-manager or terminal command ).

Check the section under sound. Make sure you have configured ich9. Below is my current sound configuration using Virtual Machine Manager 4.1.0:

As I pointed out in my tutorial, "Make your user member of the kvm and libvirt groups..."

pulseaudio usually runs under your user privileges, on most systems as user 1000. But read the entire tutorial or at least the section on audio.
