New Kernel 100 has shutdown errors.

Post by choochooal »

Linux 5.15.0-100-generic when shutdown causes scrolling errors on the screen.
Rebooting into Linux 5.15.0-97-generic the system has no issues.

Screenshot of some of the dump.

I cannot read between the lines to see what is wrong. I do have copies of
journalctl -b-1 | grep systemd
if this would help.

Reboot with the -97, remove and blacklist the -100, and wait for the redeeming future update.

Security risks of running an outdated kernel are usually largely or even entirely theoretical, so no worries.

That says 404 not found. What are the errors?

Why did you only search for systemd messages?

Same problem here with the -100 and -101 kernels on the laptop I'm currently using. When shutting down, what looks like a register dump and a couple of screens of error messages flash by way too fast to read, then the laptop powers off. Since the everything works OK otherwise I haven't really looked into it. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the proprietary Nvidia display driver in use on this machine. (My other Linux Mint PCs have Intel video and have not experienced this issue.)

I must have deleted and reposted the image.

Update
Mint just did a large update yesterday 4/8.

Update old version new version
linux-headers-generic-hwe-22.04 6.5.0.26~22.04.13 6.5.27.28~22.04.1
linux-libc-dev 5.16.0-101.111 5.16.0-102.112
linux-image-generic-hwe-22.04 6.5.0.26.26-22.04.13 6.5.0.27.28~22.04.1
linux-generic-hwe-22.04 6.5.0.26.25~22.04.13 6.5.0.27.28~22.04.1
linux-headers-generic 5.15.0.101.98 5.15.0.102.99
linux-image-generic 5.15.0.101.98 5.15.0.102.99
linux-generic 5.15.0.101.98 5.15.0.102.99

I've been having issues with the 5.16.0-100 kernel, even the 101 kernel, and now the 102 kernel is installed and it seems to be fine, or let's say it shuts down now without errors.

Kernel 97 was the last good kernel I've had for weeks.

Well these updates have made all kernels good or bad having an issue coming out of sleep and there is no keyboard. It took me a while to see it happen because I use just the mouse so much. Web pages, card games, reading mail. But when I finally tried to write mail I found it.

I can maybe put the laptop to sleep 1,2 or maybe 3 times, but eventually the keyboard goes away.
I can adjust the backlight with the sliders on the power icon in the panel, but the shift-lock light will not turn on/off.

Others noticed the same issue and have also posted they are no longer getting the messages with the latest kernel (just like you have noticed).

If the errors are gone, please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title and submit the revised post so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.

I suggest making a new topic about that issue and make sure to provide your system information as described in How to get help in the first post of the new topic.

Kernel 102 fixed the issue of scrolling messages on shutdown.

https://postimg.cc/LJx1fwdY is the proper image link for previous posts. It was moved.

@SMG I am closing this as my issue seems fixed.
