1440p 240hz Screen Randomly Flickering Black

Post by Vehnomz »

Hey All, I am new to the Linux Env so I am not entirely sure what information is needed regarding this topic, but when my monitor is at a resolution of 2560x1440 (16:9) @ 240hz my screen will begin flickering. I have been able to do certain actions to recreate the flickering. When I have steam open and want to switch which disk I am saving the game to it will flicker on that menu about once every 5-10 seconds. Another is when I have YouTube open and watching a video while doing other things. I have brought my refresh rate down on this monitor to 60hz and I have not gotten any flickering so far. My system information is here:

If I need to post anymore information please just let me know. Any help would be appreciated. I also get I could just use the monitor at 1440p @60hz but I got the 240hz to actually utilize it. Thank you.

Welcome to the forum, Vehnomz.

Please see if updating the amdgpu linux-firmware helps with this issue. Instructions are here. If you have questions about them, just let us know.

I know in the past I have read of clock rate bugs with AMD, but I don't know if they have been addressed yet.

Also, if you run

Code: Select all

sudo update-pciids
that will update the names (just the names and not anything else) for the quite new hardware you have. Right now more generic terms are being used for your GPUs.
