Wifi not working fresh install

Post by FilipV »

Hello everyone, I have for the first time in my life installed Linux and I went with this distro. I am doing a dual boot with Win10. However, after I installed Linux, I do not see wifi toggle and I can only connect with my phone connected to my PC via USB. I have desktop PC with Wifi thingy in the USB port. It all works fine on Windows. I have already tried things suggested in other post such as: 1. Turning off Fast startup in windows 2. Disabling secure boot 3. I have even tried installing driver for my wifi (not sure how successful I was). Any help would be appreciated :D

I am including additional info:

Code: Select all

inxi -Nn

Code: Select all

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet
    driver: r8168
IF: enp3s0 state: down mac: 54:a0:50:87:dd:8c
Device-2: Realtek 802.11ac NIC type: USB driver: N/A
IF-ID-1: usb0 state: unknown speed: -1 duplex: half
    mac: d6:2a:4c:40:57:30
Also I have just tried:

Code: Select all

mokutil --sb-state
and I get:

Code: Select all

SecureBoot enabled
SecureBoot validation is disabled in shim
Interestingly, when I boot up the PC it said booting in insecure mode. I turned off secure mode via CMD in linux since in bios the option to disable it is greyd out (stuck on enabled)

Lastly,

Code: Select all

lsusb

Code: Select all

When you set an administrator password in the BIOS, it'll probably be "ungreyed", so that you can disable it after all.

Thanks for that but unfortunately it did not work. I set up admin password and next time I booted up and went into BIOS settings it asked for password, moreover, it said my access level is administrator. Nonetheless the option still remains grayed out.

Try this:

1. First establish temporary internet connection by other means (looks like you already have that, but just in case):
https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... ernet.html

2. Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series. Then reboot and test.
