Bluetooth Manager won't start 21.3 Cinnamon

Post by agent86 »

The Bluetooth USB adaptor works fine when I boot to Windows but not Linux Mint 21.3 which was a clean install a month ago as Mint 20 started giving issues I couldn't solve I decided to fresh install the latest version to avoid upgrade or legacy issues.

I could open Bluetooth manager but no adaptor showed so I moved the Bluetooth dongle to another USB port then Bluetooth Manager stopped opening even after reboot or Bluetooth USB adaptor removed.

The Bluetooth adaptor is back in its original USB port.

I tried a lot of things from these forums late at night that I don't really understand including what looked like managing to uninstall and reinstall the Bluetooth and see the services are running but my skill level and understanding is beyond working this out by myself.

I even rolled back Linux using Timeshift and this appeared to work but doesn't obviously return the system fully. It must be missing something in the rollback.

I will need help in getting Bluetooth Manager working then troubleshooting how why the Bluetooth dongle doesn't work.

It appears the service is running.

I see I missed system information which I will add below.

1. removed Blueman, cleaned up an reinstalled.
sudo apt remove blueman
sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt autoremove
Rebooted
sudo apt update
Everything is updated
sudo apt install blueman

Blueman Manager still won't start but Bluetooth service is running.

sudo systemctl status bluetooth.service

● bluetooth.service - Bluetooth service

└─945 /usr/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd

I then read about kernel issues so updated to 6.5.0-26-generic x86_64 bits

Still not opening Blueman. It will sometimes flash the icon in the taskbar for a fraction of a second.

Problem fixed. If you put an incompatible adaptor in the Bluetooth Manager will stop working. Remove the dongle and it still fails to load. Must be some config issues. Purchased a recommended dongle and everything is working but its a tiny thing and keyboard doesn't work unless very close to the computer and I wanted 3 meters. Now just need to find one that has some range plus works under Linux. Hope this helps someone.
