<SOLVED> Cannot configure WiFi/Network Controller

Post by Newblin »

Hi, guys! Total noob here. Switched from Windows recently and haven't been able to figure out how to set up WiFi on my Lenovo laptop. The option is not even shown. I only see the toggle for the wired connection and when I connect an Ethernet cable, it works.

When I do inxi -Fxzd based on this discussion here, I see that the network controller does not have a driver installed, but the Driver Manager is not prompting me to install anything and I am not really sure how to do that manually.

Tried the fix mentioned here as well, but it did nothing. (Someone mentioned it helped with Linux Mint as well on a different post I can't find now.)

Would appreciate any help.

This might help:
Update Manager - panel: View - Linux kernels
Install the latest kernel of the 6.5 series. Then reboot and test.

Note: in order to try this, you need temporary internet access by other means.

I don't know if that is a thing with Intel devices, but maybe try using the Driver Manager? For that to work, you will need temporary network access via ethernet too. But your system information shows no driver for that device, and at least for some devices I know there to be proprietary driver available there.

So, the Driver Manager didn't prompt me to install any updates, even after connecting to the internet via Ethernet cable. However, updating the kernel to 6.5.0.26.26 fixed it. The option was just there after the reboot. Guessing the drivers for my network controller are not included in the 5.etc version of the kernel, but are in the 6.5 version? In any case, thank you Pjotr. Marking as solved. :)

I am wondering if testing of internet before installing should be included somehow in addition to "can not install or boot" in recommendation for using the Edge iso on newer hardware.
