Executing .sh files

Post by Tinman »

I just upgraded to Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon from the previous version. Now when I try to run an executable .sh file in any file manager, nothing happens. I used to be able to click on the .sh file to install a game and it would launch, now since the upgrade nothing happens. Any ideas?

Pardon the possibly silly question, but have you tried to right click on the file and change it's " executable" permissions...aka toggle it off..or on?

a.) toggle it once. double left click it or right click and select to execute it

b) also left click drag it into a terminal window. ..after typing sh with one spacebar press after the sh part, then press enter to execute and report the results back here

when you copy the results..and come back here..click the </> first, then hold cltrl and press v to paste

also look at nemo toolbar/Edit/Preferences/Behavior/ExecutableText files and choose
how nemo handles them

I also tried the Nemo executable setting and that didn't work

You don't press enter after typing sh

Type the " sh"... one spacebar press...then the rest of that path and file all in one command

@Tinman
That looks to me that you are doing the right thing.
I think you need to look for a later version of the installer, or tell them the installer doesn't work on Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon and ask them to update their installer.
