Weird system tray icon and unable to shut down from the start menu

Post by Brody »

Hi, I've had a weird icon on my System Tray/XApp Status Applet for about a week now, either applet shows this and I imagine it's not a problem with either of them.
It's this little icon Image.
There is no tooltip, rightclick doesn't show anything, neither does normal left clicking or double clicking.
It coincided with Cinnamon giving this error when trying to shutdown Image
I tried stopping processes in the futex_wait_queue_me channel like another post recommended for that warning when shutting down, but no dice. I've been shutting down with the terminal for the past couple weeks or so.

Edit: spaced, here's some system info

Hello Brody welcome to the Forum.
Please share your system info by going to:
Menu/System Reports/System Information/click "Copy"
and pasting it here.
(You can use the command inxi -Fxxxmprz on the Terminal.)

Can you try changing icon themes to see if any theme gives a proper icon to that tray app?
Can you tell us what kinds of applications you are running? Especially your Startup Applications.
What apps have you installed since a fresh install of Mint?

I've installed a few things, like emulators, Krita, Steam, a few other things like qBittorent and unrar.
This is what it looks like with mint-x icons, the only one that significantly changed it Image

I've never heard of Unrar, is that a Windows app? That might be a possible culprit if it likes to stay running in the background on the system tray.

No it's a linux app, it's a community port to debian that you can find on the official Winrar website. Just let's you open and extract .rar files. You can find it on the Linux Mint software manager. Uninstalling it to check did not remove the icon or issue.

OK well it's gone now. There's one a couple things that could have fixed it:
- Something updated and its just fixed.
- My VPN (which was stuck on and had to be manually turned off by deleting the openvpn files associated with it) was the cause of the icon and error. This I think is the most likely.
