HMDI TV monitor no longer found - LMDE 6

Post by majpooper »

I have dual monitors and a Panasonic flat screen configured on my PC running LMDE 6.
For a while now I have not been able to access the TV screen. I do not use often so have been putting off delving into the problem so I cannot say exactly when this stopped working but several months. I just assumed it was a missing driver as a result of a kernel update.

I tried loading some AMD GPU radeon drivers following the HOW TO below but that did not work

That tutorial only applied to hardware than can use the amdgpu drivers. Your Turks GPU hardware is a generation too old to be able to use amdgpu. The radeon driver is your only choice.

I don't see an HDMI option in your output.

Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Turks GL [FirePro V4900] vendor: Hewlett-Packard
driver: radeon v: kernel arch: TeraScale-2 pcie: speed: 5 GT/s lanes: 16
ports: active: DP-1,DVI-I-1 empty: DP-2 bus-ID: 01:00.0 chip-ID: 1002:6749
class-ID: 0300 temp: 56.5 C

What is the output of

Code: Select all

ls /sys/class/drm/

Here you go:

Code: Select all

majpooper@tacoma:~$ ls /sys/class/drm/
card0 card0-DP-1 card0-DP-2 card0-DVI-I-1 renderD128 version
I looked at the back - and the HDMI cable is going into and adapter which I can't remove which seems strange.
So now I wonder if the HDMI is being converted to something else or if it's a bad cable or adapter.
Problem is I don't know when it went bad because I don't use it very often.

There's no HDMI port showing, but if the HDMI cable is going into an adapter that is attached to either a DP port or a DVI-I port then HDMI would not necessarily show in this output. The original port of the GPU could show.

That does seem strange. I have no guesses what it might be.

Does the connector end have a lock on it that you have to press to get it to release from the adapter? Many Display Port to HDMI adapter cables have that. It shows a DP-1 is active so it's using the display port. I have one of those that has the latch lock like I described. Is the 24" monitor using a Display Port because it shows the DVI as inactive and it shows a second Display port also. Your card has two Display Ports and one DVI. Have you tried another HDMI cable? Or maybe the adapter has failed
