I suggest you upgrade to the latest BIOS/UEFI which appears to be version 44 if I found the correct link.Snuptychl wrote: ⤴Wed Mar 27, 2024 6:46 pm Machine:

I wanted to copy some of the lines from the other output I requested to show you the problem, but you pasted them into an image which makes that not possible. We ask people to use code tags and paste the results into a reply specifically so we can explain and give details. Photos just make it harder to help people. No one wants to be clicking a lot of links just to get information when the info can be posted into a reply box.
I believe there may be a workaround in place for your laptop which may not require updating the BIOS/UEFI. However, I don't know enough about the Legion models to know if this fix applies to your model
linux-firmware: Add CS35L41 firmware for Lenovo Legion 7i gen7 laptop (16IAX7)
There is also one cirrus: Add CS35L41 firmware for Legion Slim 7 Gen 8 laptops.

The topic stays open for 6 months so you have plenty of time to live life as well as troubleshoot this issue.
How to update the BIOS/UEFI is something you need to contact Lenovo for your options. You may need to have Windows installed to do it. Lenovo does have community forums if you have questions about updating.
The below information indicates your laptop has Cirrus amplifiers in it.
Code: Select all
Mar 29 20:13:56 snuptychl kernel: cs35l41-hda i2c-CSC3551:00-cs35l41-hda.0: Failed property cirrus,dev-index: -22

I do not know much about Lenovo models to know if updating the firmware will help your situation. The general idea is to update the linux-firmware so even if Lenovo does not fix the BIOS/UEFI then it would still be possible for the amplifiers to work.
We can see if that will help in your situation. Here are instructions to update your system with the latest cirrus linux-firmware.
- Take a Timeshift snapshot. If this change causes problems, a snapshot will be the best way to reverse the change.
- Please go to this page and download the linux-firmware-main.tar.gz firmware package into your Downloads directory. Make sure there is still a red rectangle with
HEAD
in it and a green rectangle withmain
in it. If not, stop and I will get you updated information. - Right-click the downloaded file and select "Extract here". That will create a directory named
linux-firmware-main
. - Navigate to the cirrus folder in the linux-firmware-main directory just created and open a terminal in that cirrus directory and run the following lines one at a time.
Code: Select all
sudo cp -u -r * /lib/firmware/cirrus/ sudo update-initramfs -u -k all
- Reboot the computer.
After you do that, check for sound and if there is still not sound re-run the
Code: Select all
journalctl -k | grep -Ei "ALSA|HDA|sof[-]|HDMI|snd[_-]|sound|hda.codec|hda.intel"

I updated the firmware and still nothing I still have the same error and bios I will try to update via QEMU if it works and is it a good idea ?
but it looks like my microphone works which also didn't work but I'm not sure because I'm using a usb microphone

Re: Laptop speakers no sound
No, it is not a good idea to try and update computer firmware(BIOS/UEFI) using a virtual machine. You need to update it using the instructions from the manufacturer because BIOS/UEFI is from the manufacturer. BIOS/UEFI not part of the operating system software; it is considered part of the hardware.
My guess from my initial reading of the firmware was your hardware is a different model than the ones listed so there may not be a workaround for it yet if a BIOS/UEFI update does not fix the issue.
USB devices are likely using usb drivers (ie. different drivers than the ones we are trying to get working).
Many people with this issue have been able to get bluetooth sound devices to work. Bluetooth sound works a different way and is not affected by this issue.

Even if the topic starter has most likely checked to test the mute button: It has already happened to me that I asked a similar question in the forum, and then it turned out that I had only pressed a certain button by mistake. In reality, everything was fine.
How you get better results when searching for yourself.
Re: Laptop speakers no sound
In addition to the firmware, you probably need a model-specific quirk in the kernel, like this: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/ ... k.c#L10346
Is it is possible for you to run update-pciids and show the output of the lspci command?:
Also, as others pointed out, VM's or wine don't have the low-level access needed to update the BIOS. But I don't think a BIOS update is going to help here anyway.

hmm... so what to do next? i contacted lenovo for that bios update
Re: Laptop speakers no sound
I have given you all the ideas I have.
I don't see your laptop version in the list seasons provided, but maybe they will have other ideas. Or you may have to wait and see if future firmware updates will fix the problem.
When you buy a laptop that is only guaranteed to work with Windows, then sometimes things like this will happen.

Re: Laptop speakers no sound
hey just upgrade your kernel and all your problems will be gone. I have a lenovo legion 7i gen 8 and I had the same issues has you all I did is upgrade and my problems were all gone. Choose a kernel that is superior to 6.6

Your computer has a 13th-gen Intel CPU with Nvidia graphics while the OP of this topic has a AMD Ryzen 7 6800H with an AMD 6600 GPU. That does not sound like similar hardware.
Please provide the output of
lspci -nnv | grep -iA1 audio
so we can see what your computer has.A woman typing on a laptop with LM20.3 Cinnamon.

Re: Laptop speakers no sound
trust it will work does not matter if it is INTEL or AMD just updating your kernel will change the issues. In linux mint your kernel can only be at 6.5.0-27 some files will be missing for your Lenovo Legion if you compile your kernel to a a stable version like 6.6.2 or up you will get those missing files and your audio will work perfectly.
