I don't want to create an account/register there but tested both http and https://fastly.linuxmint.io. No problems. :wink:Image

Content of: /etc/apt/sources.list.d/official-package-repositories.list

Code: Select all

# Do not edit this file manually, use Software Sources instead.

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com virginia main upstream import backport #id:linuxmint_main

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy-backports main restricted universe multiverse

deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ jammy-security main restricted universe multiverse

What happens when I run mintupdate and try to access software sources:

Code: Select all

edit

Was getting an an error that read "Could not refresh the list of updates", but for some reason it fixed itself.

Working OK for me in the UK, both directly (ISP Virgin Media) and via a VPN to an exit on a Digital Ocean droplet somewhere in London. No noticeable change in speed when running apt update.

Disappointed that fastly only does legacy IP - can't do IPV6.
EDIT: It's only the DNS AAAA record missing: See the following post. Thanks for clarifying, Xenopeek.

IPv6 DNS records would need to be added for fastly.linuxmint.io. There are currently only IPv4 DNS records for that domain hence no IPv6 connection.

Fastly itself does do IPv6.

I'm testing it as well.

Everything seems fine so far. I got at the beginning some error "switch to another mirror, http://fastly.... is unreachable" (I always used http, not https).

In software sources I corrected MergeList problems and deleted the residual configuration. Now it works, but I don't think this was the solution of the error above.

Today's Firefox update was REALLY slow 30 mins + and with more than 10 breaks.

Just opened Update Manager and got the "https://fastly.linuxmint.io is unreachable" message. After closing and reopening Update Manager it did not complain and the Firefox update was extremely quick (2 or 3 seconds to download).

Same here. Timed out several times, then got a "switch to another mirror" error. Gave up and left for work. Update worked properly when I returned 8hrs later - the Firefox update was fast, but I cannot say it was faster than before I switched to the Fastly repositories. To be fair, before switching to Fastly I always waited a couple of days before applying a Firefox update ... to let the traffic die down, and all that.
