No Wifi On MSI Z790 Pro Build

Post by dale »

Hello,

I have a new install of Linux Mint. My wifi does not work. I do not see any wifi devices in network manager.

I have already updated to the 6.5 Linux Kernel.

I ran Jeremy's wifeless script as it gives most the data I think would be needed to help. Url https://termbin.com/b2a3

I have access to a wired connection to troubleshoot/update and install but where I plan to place the computer I will not. If you can help me get my wifi working you will be my personal hero.

Thank you in advance.

Do you have Windows on that machine or use a VPN?

Try:

Code: Select all

sudo modprobe ath12k_pci

If not that, power off, remove power cord, then hold the power button for 30 seconds. Reconnect cord and boot.

[ 4.057013] mhi mhi0: Direct firmware load for ath12k/WCN7850/hw2.0/amss.bin failed with error -2
You can try to install firmware files for ath12k with following commands.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install git
git clone https://git.codelinaro.org/clo/ath-firmware/ath12k-firmware
cd ath12k-firmware
wget https://github.com/qca/qca-swiss-army-knife/raw/master/tools/scripts/ath12k/ath12k-fw-repo
chmod 755 ./ath12k-fw-repo
./ath12k-fw-repo --install /lib/firmware
Then reboot.

I just ran into a similar problem and solved it like this:

1. Make sure you are on a "new" kernel. I installed the Mint Edge ISO to get 6.5. I also upgraded to the latest stable kernel via the GUI (not on the machine at the moment, so I can't see which one).

2. Somehow, install linux-firmware version 20240318.git3b128b60-0ubuntu2 (this has the driver you need). I did this by temporarily adding the "noble" source (deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ noble main) in the software sources settings GUI and then "sudo apt-get install linux-firmware" in the terminal. I removed the source after installation in order to avoid accidentally installing incompatible packages in the future. Maybe there's a better way to do this part.

3. Follow the steps here to add some missing files: https://community.frame.work/t/guide-su ... inux/44723

4. Restart and pray

Good luck.

edit: forgot that I did upgrade the kernel in step 1, added
