Windows 10 EOL

Post by SteveR »

Microsoft kills support for most popular operating system, users now get full-screen ads
After Microsoft ends support for Windows 10, up to 240 million PCs may be sent to landfills ...
Well, these 240 Million PCs would be just perfect for Linux Mint. :D :D :D

It's Official: This Version of Windows 10 Is the Last Version of Windows 10
https://www.makeuseof.com/windows-10-la ... f-support/
and
https://www.windowscentral.com/software ... s-the-last

all things do come to an end,
. . and so does the "last version of windows" . .

thus, will any future version of their Windows System - be so popular :?:

- win-xp was
- win-7 was
- win-10 was

if you remove the older version - then the later version - has to be 'popular'
- doesn't it ?.

https://www.techradar.com/computing/win ... -scrapheap
the thing is, that will the Linux Community, take advantage of so many PCs
- "going off-line" -
that remains to be seen . .

Not going to work since my PC "does not meet the specs" for Windows 11 despite it being an 8 core Ryzen 1700 system with 32 gb of ram. So I will just use Windows 10 till the computer dies.

And people wonder why I gave Windows and MS the bird by the time Win 7 reached EOL.

At least you didn't say "all good things come to an end"! Good riddance, in my book. The last "decent" (IMHO) MS OS being Win7 but that was already pushing the limits of the hardware I was using at the time with all its bloat and the antivirus cobblers  ruining  running all the time.

I just find it obnoxious that all this good kit which I'd love to be able to get my hands on will go to waste.

I guess so!

I'll admit to having a Win10 VM just for curiosity's sake. Also Win11 .. which installed fine in the VM despite its limited resource allocation. So, if it works in a VM, why such an issue with recent, real hardware? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Not really. It's the TPM requirement that will stop it working on older hardware.
Gaming exclusively on Linux since 2017. Windows can suck it!

I'll be waiting for one of those 240million laptops to hit the recyclers and they'll sell them without an OS. My last one came with Windows10 and it got removed and replaced with LM21.3 Cinnamon. :D

I keep one machine with Windows on it because my sat nav is ignorant to Linux (despite being powered by it)
Recent HDD failure meant I had to reinstall.
I had forgotten what an utter ball-ache Microsoft software is.
Typing in codes then having to add endless KB00012475947333blah blah.
Then you have to install further applications just to get it usable
I can be using a fresh mint install within 1/4hr.
Luxury.
