Son of Mint?

Post by tower »

I know that Mint has community editions but are there any separate distros based on Mint?
As Mint is best of breed of the Ubuntu distros I would have thought that others would have been using it as a base!

It is believed that moonOS is a fork off of Linux Mint. moonOS has a similar user interface as Mint, and Moon's IRC client opens the Mint help channel when launched.

It looks like they are constructing a new website ( and new org address ), the download page is still working.

It's certainly possible, but it could also be that they're just using the Mint repositories and our version of xchat is pinning the more vanilla version.

I know of one Mint fork being worked on but it's unlikely to make a public release before Mint 9 hits.
