Now this is exciting for me- Winamp

Post by MurphCID »

https://news.itsfoss.com/winamp-open-source/ It looks like Winamp, which I used for years as an audio player is coming back as open source. This makes me happy.

You can use winamp skins with audacious, I do. I'm interested as I was a winamp user in my win days.

Fond memories initiated.
Winamp was definitely a ringer back in the day.
I still keep a spinner of XP using winamp plus some midi keyboard stuff.
even 32 bit--still does some nice tricks

What was it saying when you open it for the first time? "Winamp.......@#$%^&*!"
ESL here, so I can't remember what it was.

I used winamp and wine when I first went linux mint, but now I just use audacious with the classic winamp skin.

I currently use Rhythmbox since it does a good enough job, and I just want a music player. I am looking at Qmmp since it has replaced Xmmp, and sometimes I just want something that plays music, not videos, just music. On Windows I use iTunes since I have so much on the iPod.

Not used Winamp but Audacious works well, it is playing at present. Just drag and drop the tunes (100s of them if wanted) and it plays them sequentially.

I'll be eagerly waiting for a Linux version of Winamp.
I've been using Winamp skin on Audacious.
But it's still missing a couple of things that I used
regularly in Winamp.
First one that comes to mind.....
Winamp had a function where you could generate a
text file of every song title that you had loaded into
the playlist window.
Miss that. Used it often.

Yeah - did really like Winamp - back in the day
:D

it was nice to an attempted come-back, as these days there is so much more competition.

an Linux version :?: would be nice too, but it's rather doubtful.

winamp was just a gui for imbedded instuctiions.
In Linux we have dozens and dozens of gui interpretations
to address those same utilities.
