Wayland - black screen, and then can't run Cinnamon

Posting this in case it can help someone else.

I would also get black screen when logging in to Cinnamon on Wayland.

From what I remeber i used to work in the begining. I am unsure if an update broke it or installing a theme. I remember also adding my keyboard layout by Cinnamon/X11 and hoping it might work in Wayland. First time it broke, after login to Cinnamon/Wayland I got a black screen with a small white cursor on the upper left corner.
New attempts after reboot gave the same result. I could however log in to Cinnamon/X11. After rebooting from an X11 session I could log in to Cinnamon/Wayland. But it would still give a black screen after rebooting and going again into Cinnamon/Wayland.

If I would log in to Cinnamon/Wayland, then reboot into another distro and go into my home dir and remove the config files, I could then again log in to Cinnamon/Wayland once, but on the next reboot again black screen after log in to Cinnamon/Wayland.

I was suspecting some change in a config file would resolve this but could not find any info. Made a new user. Same story there, first log in to Cinnamon Wayland works, next login black screen.

In the .xsession/errors file I found

libEGL warning: failed to open /dev/dri/renderD128: Permission denied
libEGL warning: failed to open /dev/dri/card0: Permission denied

These are owned by the render group (in my system anyway), added my user to the render group and since then I can get into Cinnamon/Wayland. Mouse is locked though, sometimes keyborad also. Have to reconnect them to the motherboard and then everything works.

Sorry for not attaching the required info. Now after a few reboots I see that keyboard and mouse work if I just wait a few seconds to type in my login password. Typing the password in the login window directly will resulted in no mouse&keyboard, which resolves after reconnecting the devices. I don\t intend to hijack the thread with another issue. The point with my previous reply was mostly to inform others about the possible permissions issue causing black screen in Cinnamon/Wayland.

The original poster has Intel graphics and not the proprietary Nvidia graphics your system has. That makes a difference in this type of issue. I suspect you will get better performance once you move to the Nvidia-550 driver. Nvidia is switching away from using EGL and will be using GBM going forward.

By the way, you have very new hardware and will want to stay on top of BIOS/UEFI updates. If this is the correct link, the latest version is 2202.
