Game crashes when adjusting volume

Post by fr0gstrum »

Hi all, hoping to get some info re the below.

I have come across an issue when playing Metro Exodus (Steam using Proton 9.0-2). Whilst in game, when I go to adjust the volume using my keyboards volume knob (volume icon appears briefly), the game will "crash", causing the monitor to either go black, or the video signal to stutter wildly.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi!
Could you please provide the full System Info?
Also does the game crash if you alt-tab and adjust volume instead of using keyboard knob?

Sorry, I have edited my original post to show the full system info.

The game appears to crash/close when I alt-tab, before I go to adjust the volume.

I'm sorry about that!

This is apparently a game bug as another user has also reported the same issue 1 year ago on ProtonDB:
When using my keyboard shortcut to change the audio volume, the game changes to windowed and crashes
Maybe you can try with:

Code: Select all

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%
But this would be unlikely to fix it...

Also I see lots of users have recommended these commands for better performance/less crashes (I will also add above command to it and note that these are recommended for Metro Exoduce Enhanced Edition):

Code: Select all

gamemoderun VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr,dxr11 RADV_PERFTEST=rt PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%

Thanks for the info, that website seems like a good resource.
