Found it.

The deb installer is at: https://github.com/cheesecakeufo/komorebi/releases

It looks like the current fork instructions are garbage and the working installer is at the abandoned site. Go figure.

Shesh.

I don't know if it is due to my first going thru that failed meson compile method, but after installing the .deb file on my dual-DE box's Cinnamon, komorebi runs like garbage. The mp4 isnt running as a movie but instead just toggling between 2 frames.

I think the best you can hope for is to not touch the compile instructions, use the .deb, and hope for the best. The system my komorebi is running perfectly on was a prefab w/Vista on it. It's pretty old hardware, but the .deb installer is from a 2018 page so maybe my older Xfce box is perfect for komorebi whereas newer systems arent?

All I can do at this point is wish you luck.

Thank you for the link to the .deb file.

I will give it at try later.

Wonderful to see you Bleys, how have you been?

As usual, your talent for finding beautiful backgrounds is amazing.

I was poking around the net not long ago and came across cinnamon.css modification instructions myself. I created a VM Mint 21.3 | Cinn to test the instructions on and had great results using the edits to shorten the screen to screen panel into a dock and round the corners:

Have you done anything interesting in .lua lately?

Have you had the time to install yet? I would love to hear your experience on Cinn with this app.

Awesome! Do you have a video of it online? PeerTube/YouTube?
Or animated GIF/PNG/WEBP?

Here is a video up on imgur for you. I am sorry about the simplescreenrecorder window blocking the scene, this is a single monitor system and I had nowhere to hide the program window. I guess I could have minimized it then reopened it to stop video but then that's why I'm not Martin Scorsese :)

My pleasure! Should you decide to emulate what I have and get a good Komorebi install I will be happy to upload the mp4 for you. Wallset is also an option for animated desktop, but in my personal experience Wallset on a 32G RAM Cinnamon machine is being outperformed in smooth play by Komorebi on a 16G RAM Xfce (a resurrected windows Vista machine to date the hardware) machine.

Just lemme know if I can be of any help :)

Thanks! I've a ways to go before I start seriously tweaking the appearance and UI ("these dock thingies people have been talking about for... two decades? Maybe I should get around to trying one sometime" ) as I still have a whole list with lots of necessary, serious things to work through, bit by bit.

For example, this morning I finally got a native Linux version of WeChat running properly. After almost two d@mned years of trying!!! (First on Zorin, then Lubuntu, and since July, Mint.) Of course, it's all in Chinese.

Ohhh, I just realized: now that I don't need to run WeChat in Wine (using up to 100%RAM, 100%swap, system slowdowns, app crashes etc) any more, this hardware (Celeron N4000, 8gb RAM, integrated graphics) might actually have enough oopmh left over to run some eye candy now!

Once I (sloooowly) work through all the serious stuff, I'll be sure to check back with you & your posts. Thanks. (And in the meantime, I'll keep an eye on this thread to see all the awesome possibilities.)

I am not into anime, but there was a tremendous amount of that art style on the sites I browsed for nice animation mp4's.

This particular one caught my eye as it's red and black like my workspace 1 color scheme. I wanted to see how it looked with the SuperNova - Red icon set as all their icon sets are a mix of the listed color and black.

I took one of the iconset's .svg files into BoxySVG and created a custom icon for gigolo so it wouldn't stand out like a big ugly sore thumb.

I think it's a beautiful red and black GUI and figured I would upload for the rest of the thread to see.

Style: Mint-Y-Dark-Red
Icons: Super Nova - Red
Cursor: Lighted-Pixel-Red-vr2
Panel: Xfce default with glass.png applied
Wallpaper: Komorebi Live Wallpaper running kurumi-lying-in-the-water-date-a-live-moewalls-com.mp4
Conky: AirClock

custom red Xfce Applications button applied

I just hunted down how to change the Xfce panel text and colors :D

Dig the systray area now!!

Image

I now know how to set-up a series of custom color .css files named for their colors, and to keep a gtk.css file in .config/gtk-3.0 populated with the text for whatever color I need :D

Here is another Komorebi live wallpaper GUI, sticking with the black & red theme:

Style: Mint-Y-Dark-Red
Icons: Super Nova - Red
Cursor: Lighted-Pixel-Red-vr2
Panel: Xfce default with glass.png applied
Wallpaper: Komorebi Live Wallpaper running moonlit-bloom-cherry.1920x1080.mp4
Conky: AirClock

custom red Xfce Applications button applied
custom .css file used for red icons & text in systray
