This is stated here often:
That is your best option to get focused help with thisPlease open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click the Copy button in the lower right and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware

Re: Login window won't show up
Sys report seems normal.
ctrl+alt+backspace should restart cinnamon and display a login screen.
Does that happen

Re: Login window won't show up
That sounds like you have automatic login enabled. Open the Login Window and check the Users tab.
I do not know what "the background shows up without anything" means. If the background shows up then the desktop environment (Cinnamon) has loaded.
Please explain how you installed Linux Mint because an install with a home partition that is only 250MiB in size sounds rather unusual.

had problems. What I highlight below seems odd.
What i meant by saying "the background shows up without anything" is the background shows up but there is no GUI( cursor, window, etc..)
Even at live session
And about the installation, I just followed the guide and waited till installation finished then rebooted (i dunno if that important or no but i didn't let the laptop reboot it self ( i shut it down from power button) by the way i have chosen the manual login.
Thank you for helping.
Re: Login window won't show up
What background is showing up? If you are seeing a background image then you have a GUI. By pressing Ctl-Alt-T you should be able to open a terminal window.
Please provide a link to the installation guide you used because the standard install does not mention making a separate home partition, but you have one. It also mentions making a swap partition which you do not have.Jokefar wrote: ⤴Thu Nov 28, 2024 5:51 pmAnd about the installation, I just followed the guide and waited till installation finished then rebooted (i dunno if that important or no but i didn't let the laptop reboot it self ( i shut it down from power button) by the way i have chosen the manual login.
Also, you risk corrupting an install when you shut down using the power button instead of properly shutting down.
If you have a manual login then the instructions all41 gave you should have brought up the Cinnamon log in because that key sequence shuts down and restarts the X Server which controls the graphics.

Re: Login window won't show up
As I said it just the mint logo background shows up without cursor or window or even ability to use the terminal
About the installation, i followed the guide till the partitioning then followed an random guide but didn't work so i used gprated to partitioning with some help from different sites:
127GB Ntfs for my files
133GB ext4 with ( /) mount
36GB ext4 with ( /home) mount
480MB fat32 with (/boot/efi) mount
Re: Login window won't show up
If you do not have windows running then you don't need a ntfs partition. I would start doing a fresh install and let the installation do it's thing, especially if you are starting out.
Boot into your live session usb and then go to menu and type in
Then highlight each partition and delete them all until you have one hard drive showing. Then exit out, then click on install, and follow the instructions.

. Select the drive that you want to install LM on to, not the usb. Then highlight each partition and delete them all until you have one hard drive showing. Then exit out, then click on install, and follow the instructions.
Re: Login window won't show up
Repeating what you said is not helpful. I'm starting to get the feeling what you are calling "mint logo background" is not really a background. Here is a tutorial on How to post images on Linux Mint Forums so you can show us what you mean.
Not sure what "it didn't work" means might have happened or if what you "fixed" actually worked.Jokefar wrote: ⤴Thu Nov 28, 2024 10:34 pm About the installation, i followed the guide till the partitioning then followed an random guide but didn't work so i used gprated to partitioning with some help from different sites:

There was not really any reason to make a separate home partition if the size is that small, but as long as you had it made before you installed and you did a "something else" install and it was empty before you installed, then it should not matter.

Re: Login window won't show up
This is concerning. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace should log out of the current session and offer a login prompt.
That's not happening?
