how to get webcam PCline to work

Post by xpuser »

Hi, I am a newbie here. I finally got Linux Mint installed. Phew.
I Updated the software also after installation.
Now, I can't get my Webcam to be recognised. I have a PCLine webcam - model no. PCL-300K.

I installed Cheese and it doesn't recognise it. The camera works fine under windows XP.

Also, when I use Pidgin and connect to MSN, the option to make video or audio call is not available (greyed out).

That doesn't help much, even if it tells us the webcam hardware is OK

I suggest a better webcam..as the real solution.

Thanks, but those are Win XP drivers. Are there drivers for Linux?, or is that a dumb question.
Also, how would I install drivers in Mint 8.0

I can't afford another webcam, this one is good and gives good pictures when I used it in XP.

I got it to work. Don't know what I did, except plug out and plug in. It still needs a better driver though as the windows driver produced better results, still very useable and I am a happy boy.

Linux Mint rocks in this respect. Recognised all my hardware including mobile wireless broadband, which is a lot more than can be said for other Linux distro that I tried before. :)
