Grub rescue

Post by sudharma »

I had WinXp and Linux Mint "Gloria" on the same Hard disk dual booting. Both were booting ok for sometime. Then linux stopped booting. Win-XP was booting ok. Like an idiot, I used disk management from Windows and recovered & converted the linux partitions to NTFS. Since then, Win XP won't boot. When rebooting, I get the following message:-

Grub Loading >

Unkonwn File System >

Grub rescue >

and the system stays there.
In the meantime I have the "Gloria" CD and using it to access the internet.
How to get the windows XP system booting again. Highly apreciate any help to get my XP system back on line. I went through the ubuntu manual, but no help there.

You need to run fixmbr.

Reinstalling Mint would also solve the problem.
