Re: Xfce 9 Isadora development(RC Released)

Post by How-old! »

Forgot to mention that the traceroute didn't like the version of the link I used. Hindsight is wonderful!
Great respect for the skill and dedication of merl, grateful for all he does, and making no claims in respect of being much more than twice his age/experience. Suffice it to say that 'this guy who only has two posts' has thousands of postings on other websites, a one-time moderator over 10yrs ago - very much still learning, hence request for feedback. Looking for answers. Maybe it didn't come from the d/l but the alternative options seem very limited. Biggest mistake was to have anything to do with Redmond...

Something that may need to be considered. I downloaded the Isadora XFCE RC and in trying the live CD I found that I could not access a USB drive. So I tried previous releases and had to go back to the Daryna before I was able to have my computer find the USB drive. Is this a problem with the Live CD or my computer?

XFCE 9 RC is not spared from this bug

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/583923

In summary, the fsck freezes/hangs. This bug is common to all MINT9 (xfce, lxde, gnome). I wonder why no one seemed to notice it.

Did you install any updates?
I haven't installed the Level 3 updates.
Linux Mint 9 and Linux Mint 9 Xfce has run fsck on 4 of my partitons without a problem.
Also had it run twice on my Laptop without any problem.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/610452 bug report

summary: installed NVIDIA driver but when using Openoffice.org-calc xfce session automatically logs off and requires password to log-on. After the initial reboot the bug won't appear; its a one time incident only but very annoying.

EDITED as I accidentally gave the wrong link.. chalk it up to multi-tasking bug spraying

Hey. Great edit this new Mint XCFE! RC already working like a charm but I'm looking for to the stable version. So I was just wondering what is your schelude to realese the stable versions of XFCE (both 32-bit and 64-bit) Merlwiz. Still long way to test and tune? For LXDE it took like 4 weeks to get from RC to stable or so?

Ok sorry about the delay of updates.
I had a problem that took most of my time.
The apartment next to me flooded so much that it flooded ours too.
The computer room was soaked when we got home.
My desktops were sitting in water and my new one was still running.
It was the weekend so the office was closed and took hours before anyone could show up.
We didn't get anyone to soak up the water until 9PM.
We had to tear apart the computer room to get it to dry.
It took 4 days for all of the carpet to dry and then get steam cleaned.
I still haven't completely put the computer room back together.

I hope to get an ISO done this weekend.
I already think I have fixed the problem of the autologin not mounting USB drives.

100% tested it says on the iso image does this mean that it will go gold?

No, that just means that all tests were completed (successfully or not). However, since there are no failures it may well be approved.

Clem has to do the final testing for it to get approved.

ubuntu just released 10.4.1. Will the updates (almost 100 bug fixes) be included for the stable release?

If I get this correct: all the updates will be there already in the ISO.

What about those that are running the RC will we get these bug fixes via updates or do we have to reinstall.

Well you just need to update xfcemint-default-settings.(been out for a while)
If you already did it should fix the auto login problem.
If you use gigolo then install gvfs-fuse.
That's all that's needed.

Nope you would have to install those your self.

Yep, me too. I've seen a few other posts about this issue. As a noob I need to ask, with it hanging like that can it do its job? Seems kind of serious.
*buntu has never done this, which makes it doubly weird.
