OK, Ikey.
Thanks for your patience with me. You seem to know a great deal. Are you an IT man?
I will try to repeat your suggestions tomorrow. I'm having a problem with the DSL connection from time to time.
Thanks again,
Goodnight,
npap

Hey Ikey! Distrowatch hit numbers may mean nothing, but the registration on our community site show that LMDE is has gone from nowhere up to 4th position! Another couple months I predict it will be up to #3 (actually #2 cause I don't look at x64 as a real edition; it's more of a sub-edition of many of the other editions). I think you've created a monster :lol:

ikey wrote:npap, I'm only going on a whim here.. but I think your hostname has something
to do with this.. Please edit the following files and replace all instances of "p4s5a/dx+-desktop"
with "mint-desktop".

Code: Select all

gksudo gedit /etc/hostname
gksudo gedit /etc/hosts
Then try the command again:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install -f --yes --force-yes  && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --yes --force-yes
EDIT: Just seen your posts, no problem man, no I'm not an IT man, I'm a builder :)
Ikey, you're a genius! :D
Changing my hostname to Mint-desktop did the trick. The last command downloaded and replaced almost every package.
Synaptic and Software Manager work OK now.
Thank you very much for your help and your patience.
You ought to be an IT my friend :)
Cheers,
npap

@deadguy: Glad to see you've come alive once again. :D

Will definitely have to give Mint Debian a try.

Hello Ken,
It's been a while. How are things with you? :)
I've installed LMDE and giving it a try. It's great and it works fine. I'm having some trouble with the wireless DSL connection.
Very bad in the area. But I'll be back at home in a week or so.

@Deadguy
Ken's alcohol recipes are always worth trying. He must be very busy at the other place. But it's good to hear from him once in a
while. :)

I'm not surprised, the places you and your buddy Blogger go. Where is it this time? the Gobi Desert, Middle Earth, the Moon?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me if the server for 'distrowatch.com' is down or is there something else wrong ?!?!?

I did try 'downforeveryoneorjustme.com' but it said that it was 'just me' :oops: and yet, I just cannot get onto the site.

Cheers.

EDIT ++++++++++++
Hmmmm, It now seems to be back to normal . . . . no idea what happened to the site or, if it was 'just me' :?

Nah... non alcoholic is perfectly okay. A nice, Minty tea, in fact, would be awesome.

There is a whole lot of the world I have not seen.

*buys another hot Chai Latte . . . *sips*

I have often found myself, alone, in a Coffee Shop, somewhere in a foreign country. using my Netbook/laptop

and playing with the Linux OS, writing or surfing the web, for hours on end.

(sounds like a modern geeky Hemingway)

Oh, independent wealth is not what allowed me to travel, and I have traveled a lot.
Most of my travel expenses were underwritten by my uncle, Uncle Sam that is.
