Everything apparently works with Linux Mint 3.1 "Celena" except for the built in Wireless Card.

The card in question "might" be:
Acer InviLink 802.11b/g Wi-Fi certified solution, supporting Acer SignalUp wireless technology

Where to get:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product. ... id=5969098
Maybe that will get fixed by Ubuntu.
http://www.gadgetell.com/2007/08/acer-l ... installed/
You should be able to use ndiswrapper with InviLink, though.

This should be helpful:

http://www.linux-laptop.net/

This site catalogues literally hundreds of different laptops, what Linux distros were tested on them, how compatible they were, and what tweaking, if any, was necessary to get Linux running on it.

Incidentally, I'm using a HP Compaq nx 7300. Mint worked practically out of the box - the only thing I needed to do was blacklist the bcm43xx wireless driver and install the HP wireless driver.

Same here. HP Pavilion dv2108ea ... Linux more or less works out of the box, incl. hibernate, suspend, standby .... Only thing that doesn't work (and I really don't care) is the web cam in the laptop lid. But as I said: the rest I really care about works tip top.

- Intel(R) 'Centrino Duo' CPU T2050 @ 1.60GHz
- 1 GB RAM
- 100 GB SATA HD
- Dual-Layer DVD-writer with 'lightscribe'
- card reader
- Intel 3945 a,b,g WiFi
- Intel 'PRO/100 VE' Ethernet LAN
- Intel GMA 950 graphics with shared memory
- Intel 82801G (ICH7 Family) HDA sound card
- remote control (some keys work 'out of the box' with Linux)

This infomation has been in the wiki for ages, if people would only look there first. After all isn't that what the Community Portal is there for, so that us mere mortals can post Mint related info! Then again I could be wrong.

I have Cassandra working wonderfully, including beryl with all the eye-candy and wireless, on my Acer Aspire 5630.

I had to fuss with it very little in fact.

This weekend I'll be installing Celena.

EDIT!

I was just reminded that this notebook has a web camera and a memory card reader. I've never used them, in windows or otherwise, so they completely slipped my mind.

Well I have not been able to get these two things working, and also the multimedia keyboard (the one that controls music players and has volume controls along the right side of the keyboard) doesn't work.

Apart from these exceptions everything else works fine.

I apologize for any confusion.

Exactly. I hate wikis (really!) :twisted: Forumz rule :lol: (much easier to edit and to navigate than a wiki).

I never quite saw the sense behind it anyway. Really. All the infos you would ever need are here in the forum. It's kind of redundant.

That's not a bug, it's a feature :lol: ... It makes using forums so much more 'interesting' ... "Hi, I wanted to ask ...... " "You there, use the search functions damn it!" :twisted:

Uhhhhm .... any similarities with any forum mods here are purely coincidental. No newbie was harmed, damaged, tortured or otherwise disposed of in any unpleasant manners in the making of this post ....

Yes but at least nobody can say not to have found information if it is in several places. :lol:

What are the graphics chip and the WiFi chipset in there?

Graphics chip is an ATI 200M Xpress and wireless is a Broadcom Airforce. Graphics card does not work to 100% capacity but ATI is releasing drivers as open source now so it should improve. Note for anything but intense gaming it is still perfectly ok though.

I will have to come back and edit this post and add more info when I can get it, but here goes:

Thinkpad R51 1.5 Ghz Pent M 512 ramand I believe it has the intel wireless card built in. Has Cdrw/dvd player.

So far, Celena loads sweetly on it, runs with minimal to no issues. wireless works to my wep encrypted airport extreme base station, burns CD's, plays CD's, and plays DVD's, I had problem in playback when I had serious Robert Fripp music loaded on the HD and it stuttered a bit so maybe ram or some other issue but no issue when I played it off the CD, Internet radio works, and also video from internet seems to work too. did not hook it up to any printers yet or any of my Lacie 1/2 terabyte d2 hard drives via firewire. Mouse worked, track pad works too and not wild and anarchic like other times with ubuntu on another laptop or two. I do have the double click on the trackpad enabled and could not get that shut off. My 1 attempt with help from someone here ended up crashing mint and i had to reinstall and retweak which I just finished after a few days about a few minutes ago...so I am leaving things as is. goofed up the Xorg stuff or whatever...

Screwed around with Beryl but could never get the cube to appear. I decided against Beryl. As long as this works as good as it does, I am fine with it.

Hope this helps.

Basically a very sweet experience with Mint and Celena!!!

oh yes, suspend and hibernate also work. Volume buttons work.

Fujitsu Siemens Amilo PRO v2000. ... What does not work: Suspend / Hibernate.
Try this ... this is from an Ubuntu 7.04 installation but it should work on Mint too:

/boot/grub/menu.lst:
1. Add the parameter pci=usepirqmask to your boot options
2. make sure the resume=/dev/sdXXX option points to the right partition and is even mentioned in your boot options.

/etc/default/acpi-support:
Check these parameters:
ACPI_SLEEP=true
ACPI_HIBERNATE=true
SAVE_VBE_STATE=true
POST_VIDEO=false
SAVE_VIDEO_PCI_STATE=false
USE_DPMS=false
HIBERNATE_MODE=platform
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE=true

With these parameters modified like that standby + hibernate + resume works tip top on my Fujitsu-Siemens LifeBook C1410 .... I can imagine that these options could work too on your's.
